1. What is "A Light in the Darkness?"
On Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 22nd, luminary
candles will be lit for 3 hours in silent memorial outside of
homes and churches in the name of Jesus Christ.
In the book of John, Jesus Christ says, "I am the light of the
world.." and "I have come that they might have life..." But
tragically, over 43 million American lives have been lost in
the war against our unborn children since 1973. Although these
precious lives have been lost, they must not be forgotten.
It’s time for the taking of our unborn children to end. Some
men curse the darkness. Others light a candle. So join us. One
dollar lights one candle in His name. And the proceeds from
luminaries lit in your area – 67 cents of every dollar –
directly benefit your Care Net center.
2. Why should local churches support the work of your Care
Net center?
You already know that your local Care Net center is doing the
work of the church in this life-and-death arena within your
local communities. Yet surprisingly, many Christians and many
churches are completely unaware of this important fact. “A
Light in the Darkness” has been created to help raise
awareness within the church of your vital ministry.
Care Net volunteers are working tirelessly to save lives in
Christ’s name – reaching out with His love, care and
compassion with practical assistance in order to share the
biblical view of the sanctity of every human life. Care Net
centers typically operate with part-time staff and volunteers
who often work with meager resources and face constant
financial challenges. Nevertheless, last year, Care Net
centers saved thousands of lives – and led thousands to faith
in Jesus Christ. Millions more American women will face
unplanned pregnancies again next year. They'll have nowhere
else to turn for help without the ministry of your local
center. It’s vital that every church and every believer join
with you to partner in your efforts.
3. Why Christians?
God has specifically called Christians to do this work. From
the first chapter of the first book of Genesis to the last
chapter of the last book of Revelation, the Bible has but one
real subject – LIFE. Indeed, as Christians, we worship the God
of Life.
The Bible has been called the Book of Life, for it clearly
teaches 1) the eternal importance of each human life, 2) our
special relationship to God as His special creation, and 3)
the sanctity and uniqueness of each human life – so special
that "God sent his only Son that whosoever believed in Him
would...have everlasting Life." Defending and saving lives –
our physical human lives as well as our eternal spiritual
lives – is the work of the Church. Today the teachings of
Jesus Christ are once again calling the church in America back
to a renewed appreciation of the sanctity of human life. He
gave everything to give them life. What will Christians give
to save them?
4. What is a "Church Luminary Kit" sponsor?
A "Church Luminary Kit" sponsor is any church or individual
who takes it upon themselves to order one or more
Church Luminary Kits containing 250 3-hour Luminary
Candles for $250. As a Church Luminary Kit sponsor, they
become the organizing force in their local church to help save
lives in the name of Jesus Christ. Inside each kit is
everything needed to inspire others to participate in "A Light
In The Darkness" on January 22nd. Additional materials are
also available to sponsors at
www.campaignforlife.org.
5. How can my center’s local churches and individual
Christians participate?
It’s easy. They simply order a Church Luminary Kit through the
materials contained in this package from you directly – or
they may order online. With a Church Luminary Kit order of
$250, the sponsors will receive everything they need to enroll
others in their church congregation as individual luminary
sponsors for $1 each. Church Kit sponsors are then reimbursed
directly for every luminary sponsored by these individuals.
What could be simpler? Remember – one dollar lights one candle
– in the name of Jesus Christ. Kits may be ordered online
right now at
www.campaignforlife.org – and shipping is FREE on all Kits
ordered by Thanksgiving!
6. Why the early order deadline?
It will require substantial time to order, manufacture,
assemble and ship thousands of Church Luminary Kits to
sponsoring churches and individuals all across America. Your
advance order provides the time and resources to handle all
the logistics required for this national effort.
7. What is "The Campaign for Life in America"?
The Campaign For Life is the national campaign originally
organized and operated as a development outreach of The
Pregnancy Care Center of the Susquehanna Valley, a Care Net
affiliate since 1991. The Campaign For Life In America, Inc.
was created as a national outreach on behalf of America’s
Christian Crisis Pregnancy Care Centers in 2005 with the
official national launch of “A Light In The Darkness.”
Proceeds benefit your local center.
8. Why Sunday, January 22nd?
Care Net was instrumental in the creation of a special Sunday
in January which was originally designated “Sanctity of Human
Life Sunday” through an official proclamation by President
Ronald Reagan in 1981. For years, churches across America have
joined together to recognize and remember the lost lives of
our nation’s unborn children during the anniversary week of
Roe v. Wade, which became U.S. law on January 21, 1973.
9. How can I recruit my area churches to support and
participate in this event?
Send this “Church Kit Sponsor” order form (shown above) to
your area churches immediately. Encourage them to begin
enrolling individual sponsors – in advance of the national
event. A copy of the “Church Kit Sponsor” order form has been
sent to you in this packet (top inside form). It is also
available to download online at
www.campaignforlife.org.
10. How can I help churches enroll individual sponsors
through their congregations?
Make this “Individual Luminary Sponsor” form (shown above)
available to churches to immediately begin enrolling
individual sponsors – in advance of the national event. A copy
of this form has been sent to you in this packet (bottom
inside form). It is also available to download online at
www.campaignforlife.org.
11. Will this actually work?
“A Light in the Darkness” raised thousands of dollars for one
Care Net center where it was tested this past January.
12. Will this interfere with our normal fundraising
efforts?
“A Light in the Darkness” has been designed to assist your
center in reaching out to churches in your area as an
ancillary campaign offering financial support – all in
addition to your ongoing local efforts.
13. Our volunteers already give so much of their time – how
much work is involved?
This campaign was designed with your center’s already full
plate in mind. “A Light in the Darkness” is primarily a
communications outreach campaign, where individuals within
your center communicate with churches in their community and
offer them the opportunity to support the center. Once church
members become excited, this event may help your center
recruit new volunteers. Also, we’ve already created the
communications materials that your center may use to reach out
and inform your churches.
14. What if we do not have enough time to organize a local
event on January 22nd?
A local event can take form in many shapes and sizes.
Individual supporters may wish to illuminate their homes in
private. Church groups may wish to adopt this project through
their Sunday School, Men’s and Women’s Groups, or Small Group.
You may also simply organize a local event near your center.
Communication materials are available online to assist you
with these efforts.
15. How long does it take from the time an order is placed,
to when our center receives the net proceeds directed to us?
Your Care Net center may receive revenue through this event in
two ways.
A) When your center places a “Center Kit” order online, you
benefit immediately – by ordering at 33 cents per luminary
($82.50 per 250-Luminary Kit). You may then offer these
luminaries at $1.00 each to local sponsors. You will receive
67 cents immediately for every luminary you distribute in this
manner through your local churches.
B) Churches or individuals in your area may also order their
luminaries online. When that happens, they must indicate which
center they wish to support through their sponsorship, at the
time of their order. Following January 22nd, these online
orders will be totaled and proceeds will be distributed
through Care Net’s national offices in Sterling.
16. How can our center alert the community about “A Light
in the Darkness”?
There are many ways your center can alert your community about
“A Light in the Darkness”. We have included materials online
for your center to download, FREE for this purpose. Materials
include: press releases, church mailings, bulletin
announcements, pulpit announcements, posters, radio spots,
broadcast messages – plus a special 90 second church video
that will inspire church members to participate.
Of course, word of mouth and email communications are great
ways to spread the news. Tell your colleagues, friends and
family about the event. Email is also a great way to spread
the news. You may use our special “Tell A Friend” section on
our site to email others about “A Light in the Darkness” and
encourage them to do the same.
17. Is “A Light in the Darkness” for church groups only?
Although the campaign focuses on the church community, we
encourage you to involve your other Christian friends and
family, neighbors and colleagues.
18. What if I still have questions?
That’s easy! Just email us at
info@campaignforlife.org – or call us at 570.523.8206.
Together, we can save more lives – and help change America!
